a guide to indian attire
Below are links to sites that specialize in Indian attire:
If you’re local in Southern California, the below stores in Artesia are great for in-person shopping:
A brief description of different types of outfits:
Women:
Lehenga = Top + Skirt + Scarf
Kurta Set = Top + Pants + Scarf
Sharara = Top + Flare Pants + Scarf
Anarkali = Long Top + Pants + Scarf
Saree = Top + Fabric to pleat/wrap around your body
Pre-Stitched Saree = Top + Pre-pleated & wrapped fabric that slips on like a skirt
Men:
Kurta Set = Top + Pants
Sherwani / Jodhpuri = Suit Jacket + Suit Pants
As the Nelengu is more casual than the Hindu Ceremony, men can opt for a kurta set instead of a sherwani/jodhpuri suit.
The Hindu Ceremony will be formal - please avoid wearing ivory or red.
